I am also amused by the last but one review. My assessment lasted over 2 hours and Dr Cubbin also then spoke to my parents by telephone to get further background information. I also had to bring school reports and fill out a ton of questionnaires so I would say that she is very detailed in her approach in my experience. I have a friend who had recommended Dr Cubbin who said her assessment was almost 3 hours long and had a similar experience of her being thorough. She is a medical doctor so I would agree with the last review that you go to a psychiatrist who has knowledge of ADHD if you want specialist information on medication. If you want talking therapy then don’t go to a psychiatrist – go to a therapist/councellor/psychologist. In my experience she is happy to work through many ADHD drugs to find the one that suits and she is well informed about the newest of the drugs and happy to try them and not just stick to one such as Ritalin. She had told me when I asked about it that Adderall is not licenced in the UK, and I understand that to be true, so perhaps this is why the last but one reviewer could not get her to prescribe it. I was offered the nearest drug that is available in the UK and felt able to discuss my ideas and thoughts. She is obviously interested in ADHD and getting the best outcome for you and I would never say that she has come across as disinterested. Her report and subsequent letters have always been promptly produced and I have not had a problem with errors. I have been seeing her since 2010 and would definitely recommend her and would say that I strongly feel that my ability to function and perform in life has improved as a result of ADHD medication.

Normally I don't write reviews of anyone, but I was moved to contribute after reading the last review. Of course we all have our own perceptions of people and we are entitled to those opinions, but I found the last review rather amusing although clearly the author of the review was somewhat frustrated. (It was all the more amusing after I checked the definition of narcissistic.) I have been having treatment from Dr. Cubbin since 2011. I have always found her extremely fair and extremely good. Given the state of medical care for ADHD sufferers in this country I count my blessings that I found her - she is a rare commodity. I travel a good distance for my consultations and feel the effort is worth it. She listens, is perceptive, is never judgemental and I am extremely satisfied with the level of care I receive from her. She has never been patronising and is happy to discuss the disorder and treatments available in detail. She is a psychiatrist and as such is qualified to diagnose and treat and that includes writing prescriptions where applicable/appropriate. She is not a counsellor. There is a big difference between the two professions and if you already have a diagnosis, don't want to take medication and would prefer counselling then a psychiatrist is not the right person to see. So to sum up, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Dr. Cubbin to anyone who thinks they may have ADHD and who wants to know for sure and explore the treatment options that are available in the UK. Her diagnosis and help have been tremendously beneficial to me.

Slightly miffed that it appears from this website that the amazing and wonderful Dr Sally Cubbin has been giving other patients the same high levels of professional skill and attention as she has to me. I didn't think she had any other patients! I first saw Dr Sally Cubbin in 2012; very anxious and nervous about the prospect of an ADHD label but very quickly relaxed during my first examination. Dr Cubbin imparts her obvious skill and wisdom and up to the minute knowledge of her field of Psychiatry, medication and research in a reassuring and caring way. She instinctively understood me and what the condition was doing to me. She didnt make me feel adversely judged or inadequate as some Psychiatrists do without thinking. I hear of a lot of people who like me don't get on with their initially prescribed medication. They tell me they have lots of problems getting the attention of their consultant. Unlike them I had the ever present Dr Cubbin who went out of her way to support me with phone calls and checks and wrote accurate and helpful letters to my GP to ensure they were fully engaged and helpful in their local management of changing medication according to her instructions. I am extremely grateful for her intervention and thoroughly recommend Sally Cubbin.

Having read many comments, and met numerous patients, the following quote, ‘I could not want for a better ADHD doctor,’ is an appropriate, concise summary. That statement is one with which I fully concur. An effective and efficient interface, between private practice and the NHS, was the deciding factor in my initial choice. The experience of those I have met, and myself, has been that Dr Cubbin has always done everything possible in this area, even when the complexities have been beyond expectation. I would suspect that most doctors begin their careers with commendable intent, but very often this appears invisible from the patients perspective. Dr Cubbin conveys genuine empathy, compassion, and humanity, to a degree that is remarkable and refreshing.

I first met Dr Cubbin in March 2012, for an ADHD assessment, after a referral by my GP. I had reached a point of being unable to cope with my general foggy and confused state, which I had struggled with for many years. The run up to the assessment was very effectively smoothed by Amy, Dr Cubbin's Practice Manager, who is very helpful and efficient. I had lots of questions and concerns at various points before I even got the the initial appointment, all of which Amy patiently and effectively helped with. In the event, the assessment was actually a very pleasurable (though tiring) experience, a relief after all my anxiety, since Dr Cubbin is so friendly and approachable. She was quite unfazed by my lack of school reports etc (I'm in my 50's). She diagnosed me with ADHD and organised appropriate checks with my GP, followed by a trial of medication. She has communicated well with my GP, and continued to treat while NHS gears slowly ground into place. (I'm just beginniing to get NHS care, which has been a bit of a trek - please note the delays were not due to Dr Cubbin). Now that my problem is properly diagnosed and is being treated, I am much more in control of my life, able to keep on task and persist with difficult problems better. I've been confident enough to take on projects that I would not have attempted before. Dr Cubbin (and Amy) have been consistently helpful and proactive in helping with issues that have arisen, and often go the extra mile. Overall, seeing Dr Cubbin has been a very positive and helpful experience for me, and I only wish I had been able to see her years earlier.
